BMA lab: Inventing music, composing instruments by Matthias Puech
As an extension to his show at gnration, Matthias Puech proposes to analyze how musical aesthetics and technical design influence each other in the context of experimental and electroacoustic music.
How is someone who makes electronic music in their daily workflow guided or influenced by the design of the tools they use? Through what processes and principles, in turn, can artistic movements or aesthetic choices inform the design of commercial instruments? And what happens when these two ways of thinking, at first distinct, meet? Could they lead to a third type of practice?
Based on his dual experiences as composer and designer, academic researcher, and practitioner, Matthias Puech will approach this cross-fertilization in a very personal way.
