Gnration hosts Kim Gordon's first exhibition in Portugal
A music icon and living legend with a career of almost half a century, Kim Gordon presents for the first time in Portugal an exhibition covering the last decade of her work.
‘Object of Projection’ is on display in the galleries, rooms, and courtyard of the gnration in Braga until April 5.

'Object Of Projection' is Kim Gordon's first exhibition in Portugal. Collecting a series of visual works, the exhibition shows the American artist fulfilling what was her first creative ambition: visual art. Developed from records of her life on tour, 'Object of Projection' presents glimpses of the architecture, stages, objects, bodies, and gestures that have marked Kim Gordon's career over the last decade.
On first encountering the exhibition, we are confronted with a self-centered view of the body, materialized in a blurred mirror. In the same room, on the right, a stage marking outlined by a circle of black glitter continues the representation of the body, with the glitter representing traces of the body's constitution in a circular shape whose size corresponds to the exact size of the artist's open arms. To the left, a triple screen shows two women in formal dresses mastering their guitars in a dance on stage between bodies and strings. The exhibition also extends to other rooms and spaces in the gnration building - including the interior patio, where we can see the 'Mark-Ups' series, which collects a set of photographs of hotel rooms, manipulated through digital markings that redefine the images and propose a new kind of mapping of these omnipresent settings.
Curated by Australian artist Lawrence English, 'Object of Projection' uses materials as a way of getting the public to reconsider themselves and the spaces they move through. An icon that time can't seem to touch, Kim Gordon brings to Braga a multifaceted and very personal approach to her history and the areas that have filled it: conceptual art, installation, observation, and punk aesthetics.
On February 15 and March 8, Circuito - Braga Media Arts Educational Service promotes guided tours to the exhibition (at 11 a.m and 12 p.m), led by artist and mediator Joana Patrão and open to all types of audience. Visits do not require previous registration and the sessions on March 8 include interpretation in Portuguese Sign Language. If you need an LGP interpreter for the sessions on February 15, please write to circuito@bragamediaarts.com.
The exhibition is on display in galleries one and zero, room zero, and the outdoor patio at gnration, in Braga, and can be visited for free until April 5. Learn more about the exhibition at gnration.pt.
