João Carlos Pinto, a multidisciplinary artist from Braga, will be a resident artist at Casa da Música in 2025
Born in Braga, João Carlos Pinto (1998) began studying piano and composition at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory in his hometown. After graduating in Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, the artist crossed borders and dedicated himself to a master's degree in Multimedia Composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (Germany), where he connected with great names in contemporary experimental music, such as Alexander Schubert, who became his mentor.
Known for his versatility and innovation, João Carlos Pinto has proved to be one of the most solid and original creators of the new generation. His consistent knowledge of tradition makes him an exemplary artist in composition, interpretation, and multimedia creation.
After seeing his works in projects such as Radiografia (2023) and Laboratórios de Verão (2024), both presented by gnration, the artist and composer joins Australian composer Liza Lim in the artistic residency programme at Casa da Música do Porto in 2025. Recognized as a Young Resident Composer, the artist will showcase his musical, performance, and multimedia work, developing pieces for the Casa da Música Remix Ensemble, the Casa da Música Porto Symphony Orchestra, and the Quarteto Tágide.
