Culture is a complex and dynamic process of interaction and coevolution between human beings and other species, between technologies and environments. Promoted by the artistic group CADA, the open call ANIMAIS challenges recent graduates, emerging and re-emerging artists, working in new media, to think about ‘nature-culture’ hybridity and to redraw the boundaries of a shared world that awaits new perspectives and actions.

In this second edition, the call will invite the six selected artists to travel to the village of Escoural, in Alentejo, taking on an artistic residency format that will last for 20 consecutive days (between 30 September and 20 October 2024). During this time, the artists will create projects that explore the interactions and dynamics between human beings, technologies, and nature, which will then be presented in two exhibitions - one in the village of Casa Branca and the other in Lisbon.

The six selected artists will receive a grant of €500, full board, public transport, accommodation, a production budget of €150, and access to equipment. In addition, the initiative also provides various workspaces, production conditions, and access to workshops, makerspace, and technical support.

The open call closes on 6 August and applications must be made using the form available here (it is compulsory to send a portfolio, which can be found online). More information at www.cada1.net.
