Open Call: New Artists Award EDP Foundation
The EDP New Artists Award was established in 2000 and is aimed at revealing new values of national creation in the field of fine arts. With a biennial periocity, it is recognized as one of the most significant prizes in the Portuguese artistic scene and is awarded by an international jury, selected for each edition. It is intended to support the continuing study or creative and research work of the winning artist.
In each edition, up to nine candidates are selected to participate in an exhibition to be held within the scope of the Prize, which may occupy different national spaces. The awards of these artists and the participation of the rest have proved fundamental for the beginning or reinforcement of significant and notable national and international careers. Among the winners, we can highlight Joana Vasconcelos, Leonor Antunes, Vasco Araújo, Carlos Bunga, André Romão, Gabriel Abrantes, Priscila Fernandes, Mariana Silva and Claire de Santa Coloma.
Portuguese can apply, whether or not resident in the country, with no age limit. Applications will run from October 10 to November 14, 2018 and those interested can apply here. The curatorial team of this 13th edition consists of Inês Grosso, curator of MAAT, Sara Antónia Matos and João Silvério, curators and art critics. They will have the choice of six to nine candidates who will have the opportunity to participate in a collective exhibition at the MAAT, with a date yet to be defined.
