OPEN CALL: Onassis AiR, residency programme in Athens
Onassis AiR is an international residency and artistic research programme promoted by the Onassis Foundation, based in Athens (Greece).
Until March 7, artists, curators and creators from all artistic fields can apply for an international open call that promotes four residency programmes, taking place between September 2025 and July 2026 in Athens.

Over the last five years, Onassis AiR (Artists in Residency) has become a hub for cross-disciplinary thinking and exchange among art practitioners and researchers. Promoted by the Onassis Foundation, the residency and artistic research programme seeks to cultivate exchanges of perspectives and ideas providing time, space, and tools for artists from various fields and backgrounds to deepen their practice without the pressure of presenting a final project.
To boost experimentation, creation, and artistic freedom, the foundation promotes an international open call inviting artists, curators, artisans, performers, choreographers, writers, dramaturgs, architects, filmmakers, sculptors, designers (of light, sound, or fashion), among other creators, to apply for one of the four residency programmes, which will run from September 2025 to July 2026.
The initiative seeks to select a total of 33 candidates, who will be integrated into the following programmes, depending on their area of expertise:
- Onassis AiR Extended Research Residencies: a three-month residency for creators looking for time and space to develop or refine in-progress work.
- Onassis AiR/ONX Fellowships: a two-month fellowship for projects that combine immersive narratives, mixed realities, and performative elements to address the potential of computational technologies to foster sustainable practices.
- Onassis AiR Technical Residencies: a three-month residency for arts professionals working in the technical fields of theater, dance, music, cinema, and digital productions looking to improve their skills in stage management, theater production, scenic/lighting/sound design, and art & advanced technologies projects.
- The Onassis AiR Dramaturgy Fellowships: three-month fellowships for professionals (from or based in Greece) exploring the performing arts. This segment seeks to support theatre, dance, and/or performing arts creations that have not yet been presented to the public.
The selected participants will receive monetary support for research or production, accommodation, travel to/from Athens, collective support for group visits and research trips, opportunities to connect with the local art scene through networking events, and access to audiovisual equipment and mentoring from professionals.
All participants in the programme will also be invited to join the Onassis AiR Open Days, a series of two-day public events held once per residency cycle. This is an opportunity for Onassis AiR candidates to engage with local audiences and other art professionals, sharing their ideas and research through presentations, talks, multimedia installations, performances, screenings, or any other format of their choice.
The open call closes on 7 March 2025, at 12:00, noon (UTC+2) and the results will be communicated via email by 16 June 2025. Learn more about the call and how you can participate at onassis.org.
