Square - Mapping the Atlantic, a meeting of Atlantic rhythms and sounds
Square - Mapping the Atlantic is a celebration of independent music from the four continents of the Atlantic coast. Extending across the urban quadrilateral of the cities of Braga, Barcelos, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Guimarães, Square celebrates artistic diversity and gives the margins a central role, becoming a meeting place for emerging talent and new trends in national and international music.
Through a vast programme of concerts, conferences, and activities for families, the initiative promotes the musical creation of artists from the African, American and European continents, crossing local scenes with artists and bands such as Unsafe Space Garden, Quadra, Asmaa Hamzaoui & Bnat Timbouktou (from Mali), Julián Mayorga (from Colombia), Djô da Silva - artistic director of the Kriol Jazz Festival (Cape Verde), or Laura Diaz - lead singer of the Brazilian band Teto Preto.
