Open Call
Artists, designers and creatives can apply for the Ars Biologica ArtXScience Residency (Austria and Czech Republic)
Applications for the ArtXScience Residency, as part of České Budějovice – European Capital of Culture (ECoC) 2028, in partnership with Ars Electronica, are open until 28 September 2026.
Applications available at ars.electronica.art/export/en/ecoc2028-ars-biologica-art-science-residency/
Artists, designers, creatives and artistic collectives are invited to apply. During the residency, selected applicants will establish a direct collaboration with local scientists.
The ArtXScience Residency is an integral part of the Ars Biologica project, a key pillar of České Budějovice – European Capital of Culture 2028. The aim is to explore how art and science can collaborate to address urgent environmental challenges, with a particular focus on the climate emergency, sustainable agriculture, geoengineering, permaculture, water resource management and broader ecological impacts on local communities.
The two residency positions offer opportunities to integrate scientific research into new or ongoing artistic practices, culminating in a public presentation developed in collaboration with Ars Electronica and other partners.
The project is looking for artistic proposals that include:
→ a spatial ArtXScience artwork that goes beyond screen-based explorations;
→ public participation formats connected to the work and involving the local community.
The final artistic outcome will be presented at the Ars Biologica Festival in spring 2028.
