Create, learn, and experiment: the new season of Circuito has something for everyone
From January to July 2026, Circuito – Serviço Educativo Braga Media Arts will undertake more than 20 initiatives that will further consolidate the intersection of creative practice, media arts, and community engagement.
The program begins with teacher training as part of the Culture and Education Biennial of the National Arts Plan, entitled “Technology as common ground – collaborative creation in music and the arts.” Over five in-person sessions, between January 21 and March 25, Óscar Rodrigues explores tools and approaches that promote collaboration, inclusion, and creativity.
Also in January, Nuno Loureiro kicks off the BMA lab “Ableton Live,” a four-session workshop where participants build a music generation system adapted to their artistic practice. Until the end of the season, there will be more BMA labs, highlighting the masterclass by Oren Ambarchi and Will Guthrie, Australian musicians who will perform on the same day on the gnration stage and share their artistic practices and processes on March 15.
Throughout the season, Cinema Play will screen several films for children over the age of three - “Animais Gentis” (February 10, 11, and 14 at gnration) and “Possível e impossível” (July 11 at Theatro Circo).
In March (on the 21st, at gnration), the workshop “Continuar abril – na televisão e com as crianças” (Continuing April – on television and with children) will be presented, in which Ana Bigotte Vieira and Pedro Cerejo will use the exhibition ZAPPING: A TELEVISÃO COMO CULTURA E CONTRACULTURA (ZAPPING: TELEVISION AS CULTURE AND COUNTERCULTURE) as a starting point to talk with the whole family about April 25 and television.
The cycle Art is a phenomenon (with two dates throughout the season) and the school activity Vaivém continue in the program, while Mini Mapa Sonoro returns to the school community after a short break.
Every two years, the month of May is synonymous with INDEX – Biennial of Art and Technology, and the Circuit once again presents a program that leaves no one out, with activities for children and schools, and guided tours of the various exhibitions of the biennial for all audiences.
On June 6, Theatro Circo welcomes Djam Neguin twice – in the morning with the show “Buluku,” which explores the story of a curious afronaut who travels through space-time to share adventures about the creation of the Universe; and in the afternoon, in the workshop “My astronaut self and the metaverse,” in which participants are invited to create their own version of the astronaut, incorporating elements from the show, as well as references to the space universe and African culture.
And since there is no July without the Circuito summer school, the Circuito Summer School (July 6 to 10 at gnration) is back with five activities in a week totally dedicated to creativity and experimentation, exploring areas such as cinema and music, as well as animation and artificial intelligence.
ODE - Orquestra de Dispositivos Eletrónicos (Electronic Devices Orchestra) will have a new edition, this time under the artistic direction of Pedro Lima, an award-winning musician from Braga and one of the most active and challenging figures in contemporary music today. The creative sessions will take place between April and July, and the first performance will be on July 18 at gnration, alongside Coura Voce, a female choir that regularly works in the field of specialized music education.
As usual, guided tours of gnration exhibitions will take place throughout the year. In February and March, they will focus on the exhibition ZAPPING: TELEVISION AS CULTURE AND COUNTERCULTURE, and in June and July, on the exhibitions of INDEX – Biennial of Art and Technology.
