The sikau/pubalova duo is participating in an artist residency at gnration after winning EMAP’s open call
Selected at the European level, the artists are part of a group of 15 projects chosen to develop new works at the intersection of art, technology, and interdisciplinary research. As a member of the international network, gnration is hosting the artist duo sikau/pubalova as part of the European Media Art Platform (EMAP) 2026 residency program.
Since 2020, Denisa Pubalova and Dr. Lea Luka Sikau have been developing an artistic collaboration situated at the intersection of multisensory art and experimental opera. Bringing together scientific inquiry and artistic practice, their work explores vibroacoustics, haptic perception, and olfactory experiences, reflecting the distinct research trajectories and creative methodologies of both artists.
A new media artist and researcher in environmental philosophy, Denisa Pubalova focuses on post-anthropocentric narratives and interspecies communication through bioart and creative programming. Dr. Lea Luka Sikau, who holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and serves as curator at the ZKM Center for Art and Media, combines her practice as a mezzo-soprano with research into posthumanism and the evolving languages of contemporary opera.
As the starting point of this programme, gnration will host the EMAP Networking Conference from 7 to 9 May. The annual gathering of the European network brings together artists and cultural professionals, and will include a public presentation of the projects selected for the 2026 residency programme.
