The Master’s in Media Arts provides advanced training that integrates art, communication, and digital technologies, fostering knowledge creation, innovation, and employability within this domain of artistic exploration. The programme is distinguished by a strong practical and laboratory-based component, centred on project development.
In response to the rapid expansion of this field, the academic structure is grounded in a robust integration of theoretical foundations, practical experimentation, and critical thinking. This approach promotes an ongoing dialogue between reflection and practice, enabling a dynamic articulation of conceptual knowledge and applied skills.
The programme is primarily intended for graduates—whether or not they possess professional and/or artistic experience—in areas such as Visual Arts, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Music, Multimedia, Audiovisual Studies, Design, and Communication Sciences, as well as related fields, who seek to further develop and deepen their expertise.
Established in 2021 through a joint initiative between the University of Minho and Braga Media Arts, the Master’s in Media Arts is closely aligned with the socio-cultural and geographical context of both the region and the country. It seeks to strengthen the University of Minho’s central role within the cultural and creative ecosystem of the city of Braga, a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of Media Arts since 2017.
The programme benefits from a strong connection with the activities of Braga Media Arts and gnration, enabling dynamic engagement with their cultural programme and artist residency initiatives. Supporting students’ creative development is a core pillar of the Master’s, exemplified by initiatives such as the EMMA Exhibition – Exhibition of the Master’s in Media Arts.
The results of the first application phase for the Master’s in Media Arts will be announced on 8 May.
